About Vector Addict
I am a classicaly trained artist who after 30 years has put down the brushes and picked up the wacom digital pen. I now work exclusively with vectors in adobe illustrator. And I'm starting to think pixels aren't so bad.

Artist Statement 2008
I have always loved comic books and graphic novels and I also have a deep love of classical art and well crafted fine art. The intention of my vector work is to come to a visually exciting blend of "high-brow" and "low brow" art. To create in a space were reality, imagination, abstraction and medium bump against each other. Where they tickle, nudge, caress and coax each other into cooperation with my creative vision. In that space is where magic happens.
My technique involves deconstructing the subject and, reassembling the image into a heightened version of itself, paying attention to intuition rather than preconceived ideas. Searching and experimenting to create drama and energy in each drawing.
Working with illustrator CS3 and vectors along with a wacom drawing tablet has let me create at the speed of thought. Don't get me wrong there is still a very traditional approach to making the image, and core skills make the transition in medium intact. But when I start the process it can happen very fast (or not). Vectors are also resolution independent. Which means I can work the size of a postage stamp and blow the image up to the size of a billboard and lose no resolution. And ya gota love the unlimited undo's!!!
Its great to see more and more venues opening their doors and giving validity to what is happening in the digital medium world.
RECENT REVIEW
In a recent review of work in a solo exhibition, Steve Kurth, Certified Adobe Expert and critically aclaimed author says: Gary brings years of painting experience to his new work in Adobe Illustrator. Working in a free style more associated with painting medium than vectors, Stearly's work is both illustrative and painterly. His subject matter ranges from the personal to the political but also has horror, humor and fine art components. These works are drawn by hand using a pressure sensitive tablet in Adobe Illustrator CS3.
